This little girl had a very rough start at life. At only 1.5 years, she was an owner surrender to a high kill shelter. She came in with another dog, who was pulled by another rescue, leaving her behind alone. Winter was so flea infested; you can see them all over her face in her intake photo. She is also missing half of her left ear. Winter has no idea what a leash is and had never experienced a kind word or gentle hand until coming into rescue.
Southpaw Rescue pulled Winter on the day she was set to be euthanized and put her into a foster home with other small and large dogs. She spent the first week in rescue hiding under the bed in her fosters guest room. She would come out to be with the other Chihuahua in the home, but quickly go back under the bed when her foster entered the room. '
Slowly though, we began seeing Winter peek out from under the bed to observe the other dogs getting affection. Soon, she was comfortable enough to come out wagging her tail... and is starting to approach her foster mom. She absolutely adores all the other dogs in the home and because of her happy nature, all the dogs gravitate to her.
We are giving Winter time to adjust. Once she has learned how to be a dog, she is going to shine in a new forever home!
